[00:00:03] Speaker A: Hi, guys. This is Gladys Tatis, 43. Here's a word from a local business. [00:00:12] Speaker B: Hey guys, this is Ivy. [00:00:13] Speaker A: This is Isa, this is Steven, and. [00:00:15] Speaker B: We invite you guys to Trading Card Garage. We are located on Sahara and Durango. We are a local card store. We host Pokemon tournaments, Lorcana tournaments and Union arena tournaments on Tuesdays and Fridays. We have tons of Pokemon singles, Lorcana Sing playables for collectors and players. We are an official Pokemon play store. We offer learn to Plays. Not only do we sell Pokemon cards, but we also run Pokemon events. We also host learn to plays and we're very family oriented. That's really important to us. So come check us out. [00:01:19] Speaker A: Hey everyone, thanks for tuning in for episode six of Vegas Geek Crew Valley Celestials. We're going to be talking about tabletop games. Ready, set, draw. [00:01:33] Speaker C: Hello, everyone. Thank you for tuning in to listen to our sixth episode of Vegas GE Crew Valley Celestials. My name is Nate El Vindicator Ramirez. [00:01:41] Speaker D: This is Balante. [00:01:43] Speaker A: My name is gladys. That is 43. [00:01:45] Speaker C: As you guys can tell, we have a special panelist today. She's going to be joining us for our episode, Tabletop Games. This is exciting, everybody. I'm glad to have this table together. Ultimately, Noah was going to be here, but due to family urgencies, he miss this episode. But it's okay because we have a great candidate and great panelist to help fulfill his spot. So everyone, we're going to talk about, we're going to do a recap. Okay, first of all, we're going to, we're going to talk about what I did last time. I added a new segment to the beginning of each episode. Kind of shouting out businesses. We shouted out Mana Vault, which is a brand new tabletop, a store that has opened up here in the southern part. [00:02:25] Speaker D: Right now we're in the west of the valley. [00:02:27] Speaker C: West of the valley, Perfect. So that's they opened up. They're pretty, they're, they're decent. I like their spot. It's calm, great ownership. And so for this episode, that's what we're going to kind of highlight is tabletop games. Due to the fact that I've been doing a lot of that lately. I've been playing a lot of Lorcana, how about you? What have you been playing? [00:02:44] Speaker A: Gladys Lorcana. [00:02:46] Speaker C: What else? [00:02:47] Speaker A: That's it. [00:02:49] Speaker C: Like Hannah's fun. Would you. Have you been playing any tabletop games? With one thing. [00:02:53] Speaker D: So when I think tabletop games, it's not just the trading card games. I also think of like board games. Or role playing games or games that require a lot of community to really play. I haven't been playing too much lately, but the ones that I have been playing in the past have been mostly like Magic the Gathering in the Commander format. I've played Yu Gi oh on again and off again for years. I'm always down to learn new games. I'm always down to see whatever comes around. I want to at least get a trial of it. And today I got to see at least a demo of Lorcana, which I've never been exposed to. [00:03:24] Speaker C: We're gonna get into that later in the episode. We're gonna do a little bit of recap. Our last episode was shot right before the holidays, right before we all got busy. We've been to Enchant. We did some frankincense in that time. We went to Knott's Berry Farm. As far as theme parks, Belante, how have you been busy since the last time we shot our last episode? [00:03:40] Speaker D: I've been on again, off again when it comes to busy. When it comes around to it, I really enjoyed. I actually did get to go to Enchant and I very much enjoyed it. It was a double date night and had a fantastic time. Other than that, I haven't really been doing any travels. I haven't been going to any major locations. It's been really chill. Cuz after the holidays you just want to decompress, relax and just get back to it and enjoy the peace and quiet in the valley for however many weeks it lasts. [00:04:07] Speaker C: And for this episode we brought back Drink of the day. And so since Anthony is our newest co host, we decided that it was his choice and he brought this cranberry crown. Is it cranberry? [00:04:19] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:04:19] Speaker D: So it's already comes in a can, which was easy, but it's crown apple with this cranberry in it. I kind of like it actually. [00:04:26] Speaker C: I'm a big fan of the tardy flavors and it's perfect. It's smooth. I can probably drink this and play video games and then be blasted by the end of the night. But I'm also a light drinker. I'll probably be blasted out after a while. [00:04:39] Speaker D: No, this is actually really good. I like the apple side of it. [00:04:41] Speaker C: No, it's. It's really good. What do you think, Gladys? [00:04:43] Speaker A: I like it. I thought it was going to be a little stronger, but I think it. The cranberry complements it. [00:04:48] Speaker C: Yeah, it's soothing. It's. I definitely recommend it for all your spring and summer get togethers. So it's definitely for me it gets three stars approval. [00:04:58] Speaker D: And for you I recommend it for sure. Especially if you just want to grab something that's like nice tarty and not all that fruity, but it goes down real well. [00:05:06] Speaker C: How about you Gladys? What do you think? [00:05:08] Speaker A: I like it. It's good. I'd recommend it. [00:05:10] Speaker C: How many stars? [00:05:12] Speaker A: Four out of five. [00:05:13] Speaker D: I did my job right in getting this then. [00:05:15] Speaker C: Yeah. No, no, no, dude, you hit it. I'm a big flavors guy and this is a perfect world. Blend of flavors for me. [00:05:20] Speaker D: Sweet. [00:05:22] Speaker C: Okay, so on today's episode we're going to talk about tabletop games. We're going to move right into that first though, we're going to do a shout out to a trading card garage. We were just there and ultimately it's a new spot for myself. I, we started going, I started going there with Gladys about a month ago and it's been fun. It's been great. [00:05:39] Speaker A: Great. [00:05:39] Speaker C: The ownership is extremely welcoming. Sometimes it's surprising, right, because a lot of these newer shops that I've been to, they're so financially driven. If you're not buying anything, they really don't want you around and they don't want to have that conversation. So there's no sense of intimacy which they, everyone runs their business a different way. This place though, we've taken Armenians to go play there and they love it and they're so welcoming and they're willing and the community that goes there now is so willing to teach everybody and, and they're patient, which sometimes a lot of people in this type of environment, they're not very patient. And so taking Dominion has been great. [00:06:16] Speaker A: Yep. No, I love it. I love going there. I feel like as a female I'm comfortable there. You know, I've gone to other stores where I don't feel welcomed, you know, but here at Trading Car Garage I feel welcome. I feel, you know, like I'm part of the community, you know, and having all the expert players kind of show me how to play and you know, teach us. [00:06:39] Speaker C: I love it most of all just because since it is a hobby, they help you refine it. Do you think that some of the other shops the reason they are so I, I, I don't want to say that they're. Because they're not mean. It's, it's more of a barrier. Right. Because they don't want to teach anybody. So does it feel like cuz you're asking too many questions, you feel unwelcomed? [00:06:54] Speaker A: Yeah, I think that's what it is. [00:06:56] Speaker C: Yeah, that sucks. But this place is great. Like, I wanted to make sure that that's why I told Anthony prior to the show. I was like, hey, man, can you meet us here? We were. We were doing an impromptu tournament, which I won one out of the three matches that I played. So I was pretty happy. [00:07:11] Speaker A: I lost all of them. [00:07:13] Speaker C: It's okay. It's okay. [00:07:14] Speaker D: But you had fun, right? [00:07:15] Speaker A: Yeah. And I learned. So I learned, you know, how to work item cards and stuff like that. [00:07:19] Speaker C: Yeah, it's. It's fun and. And ultimately that's all that matters, is that we enjoyed some time together where we were away from technology and kind of the outside world. What did you think of that place, Anthony? [00:07:29] Speaker D: Well, someone that was there for the first time. I really enjoyed it a lot. It was really inviting, actually. And when I go into one of these TCG or trading card shops, I want to see, like, what's. What are they most known for? Are you known for Pokemon? Are you known for Yu Gi? Oh. Are you known for magic? Are you known for Lorcana? And I immediately clicked. It's a lot of Pokemon and Lorcana, seeing that there's a place in town that you can actually do this. And I, like I said earlier, never been exposed to Lorcana. Don't know too much about it if I wanted to get into it. From what my friends have been saying, this is the store to go to. Very inviting. Everyone that I talked to was extremely nice and willing to treat you. If you had a question, it didn't make you feel stupid for asking that question. It's a very relaxing kind of chill. Nice spot. [00:08:10] Speaker C: My favorite thing is the music. Cuz they have it. They found a perfect tone in a perfect level to where it's not disturbing, but it's great white noise so you feel. It doesn't feel like an empty warehouse. I'm glad you went and I got. I'm glad you got to meet him. You got a starter deck now, so now you have to start playing. So hopefully I'm gonna let you borrow a training mat. [00:08:27] Speaker D: Oh, thank you. [00:08:28] Speaker C: Yeah. And then that way you can kind of see how it plays out and how they're supposed to be laid out. Ultimately, it's a fun game. It deals with Disney characters. It's. To me, it's a combination of magic and Pokemon and with your classic Disney characters. Another cool thing about the game is that all the artwork is exclusive to this game. Oh, so they're not. They're not screenshots or anything. From any other. From any film or anything that's been done already. This stuff has been specially designed for this game and so it's cool to see different iterations of characters we all love because we all. I don't care who you are, at some point in your life you've seen a Disney movie. [00:09:02] Speaker D: Oh yeah. [00:09:02] Speaker C: And then Lorcana. So that's my tabletop comment. Not comment, but my tabletop subject. I. I've been playing it since chapter one and I think it's one of the funnest games to play and I'm glad that you're getting into it. Glattus and I'm trying to get answered into it because then we can do. Do probably an episode on site and we can record and play kind of. Yeah, something fun. [00:09:20] Speaker D: Live recording. [00:09:21] Speaker C: Yeah, something like that. And that way we can ultimately have an episode that's on site. What do they call it when. When they do live play? Yeah, live play. And then we could probably twitch it or something. I don't know. But Lurkin is fun. I recommend it for everybody. What's your tabletop? [00:09:35] Speaker D: When it comes to tabletop, when it gets the trading card things, my two biggest ones were always the classic Magic the Gathering and the Yu Gi oh trading card game. I've been slowly getting back into Magic the Gathering. Of course the what you want to play with versus what you can afford to play with has always been kind of a barrier for me. It's a little annoying, but I'm still persisting with what I currently have. And I've been going to a another shop here in town called Commander Games which is also on the west side of the valley. I like them a lot because they cater towards. I don't know in Lorcana if they have a different formats for how to play the game or if there's one way to play the game. Are there? [00:10:11] Speaker C: There's. So there's different strategies and ultimately the best strategy is playing what made the way you are happy. Like my brother, he plays. He plays to just get points and stack up on points. So he plays with low level cards and basically he just ambushes you with infantrymen. I personally, I like to drag the game out and I use a lot of magical characters and their features in order to be able to. I like to dance with the opposition. I don't like to just go to the end. Ultimately we since me and my brother have been playing alone for. Since this game started two, three years ago. Two years ago probably we had our own rules for a while. Sounds Basically because we were playing, we just played each other, we didn't play competitively. But now he wants to get more into these small tournaments at the shops and he wants to do things like that. So we have to play the right way. And today was our first exposure to that and it was fun. I. It was funny to watch him lose because he's so used to winning because he uses like those flood characters and. [00:11:13] Speaker D: Items when you first go online for that multiplayer game, that experience. [00:11:16] Speaker C: Well, here's the funny thing. They're on chapter six, right? Or seven, whatever chapter they're on, whatever iteration of the game they're on. He's bought every single season. [00:11:26] Speaker D: Whoa. [00:11:26] Speaker C: And he's on booster packs, but he's been playing with a Chapter one deck for all these seasons. [00:11:33] Speaker D: That's some sentimental stuff right there. [00:11:35] Speaker C: So. And it's so frustrating because it's like you only need one basically power card to level this guy up. And so he's got like 12 of them and then he wins in two turns because it's only, it's only to 20. And so it's, it's funny. It was fun. I had a great time today. Magic. [00:11:51] Speaker D: Yeah. So in magic they have different formats in which how you can play the game. There's standard, modern, vintage. The format that I like many, many people that play magic is actually the most popular format is Commander format. Are you familiar with it in any way or. I've heard of it. [00:12:08] Speaker C: I, I have heard of it. There's a lot of new commander decks that are coming out that have, they're themed. I saw this, I saw Bioshock and I saw, I saw like Assassin's Creed I think. [00:12:18] Speaker D: Oh yeah, that's the universes beyond where they take the rules of magic and apply it to their game. And then you play the game with these types of characters. [00:12:28] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, there was, there was a lot of like pop culture characters and because Manta has a lot of. They do a lot of magic stuff. And so I, I saw them and I was like, oh, that's interesting because they now they have licensing for all these new things to draw more people in. And I'm like, oh, but the magic guys, to be honest, every time I try to have a conversation to kind of try to learn it, they're like, well, you don't have a blah blah, blah deck. And I'm like, no, dude, I haven't even. I. This is why I don't attempt to. Oh no, because getting started. Yeah, well, cuz the energy is kind of like if you don't know what you're doing. Why are you even getting involved? [00:13:03] Speaker D: See, that's why I like the Commander games. Location is cuz I haven't played in like over five, six years. So my decks are pretty out of date. The cards are not up to par for whatever power creep or whatever the new format is, or new things may have replaced it, or you could have done something with that to make it a little different. So when I get over there, I explain my situation to them. It's like, okay, yeah. And then as we're playing, because the Commander format is. It's played with four people. So four people in a 1v1v1v1v1 format. So in doing so. [00:13:35] Speaker C: That sounds intense. [00:13:36] Speaker D: It's a lot of fun too. And it makes things very communal. Like you can make alliances, or you can make promises, or you can say, I won't kill you this turn if you promise me that you can, I'll give you this. Or I can help you out with that. So I like the community aspect of the Commander format. When I was playing it, I was with a friend of mine and I was with two other people that I've never played with before. One of them was actually one of the employees at the store too. Judge knows all the rulings, everything. A little bit of banter as to be expected. But I got back into it. I answered all of my questions had. Even if it's the most basic ones, they just say yes, no. Well, try this. Wait, why would you do that? What about this? Very, very inviting. And the fact that I had a friend, someone I didn't know, and an employee at the store, all helping me out to get back into it. Made me feel very welcome to go there. [00:14:24] Speaker C: Dude, I gotta check this place out. The only specialize is when it comes to magic. Or do they have other. Do they? [00:14:29] Speaker D: Magic's definitely the major one at this location. They have Pokemon there. I haven't seen too much else with. I haven't been in a while. I do need to pay them a visit for sure and maybe even get some more cards for my Commander deck. Because the fun thing about the Commander format is when I was looking at Lorcana, I noticed there's multiple copies of certain cards you can have in it. So in the magic Commander format, Your deck is 100 cards, but you can only have one copy of each card. [00:14:54] Speaker C: That's intense. Yeah, that's intense. [00:14:57] Speaker D: The only exception are your resource cards, your basic lands. But. And the deck has to adhere to a Commander identity. So you pick your favorite card. Pick your favorite card. Your deck is built around that one favorite card in what's called their identity, and that is the colors. [00:15:11] Speaker C: Getting 60 cards together and Lokana, we have to get. You can only use two types of like powers. Okay, two types of colors, and there's six colors total. And just getting 60 cards together, you can use up to four of the same. Oh, but because I'm a numbers guy, I only use three of the same. If I'm going to use a certain character or a certain. An item or an action, I diligently put together a couple of decks just to play with Gladys and Kevin. And I'm still not at the level at the stuff that we saw today. Like, today, Kevin was sweating. There was this guy that pulled out like 40 cards, and he got down to the last 20. [00:15:46] Speaker D: Oh, no. [00:15:47] Speaker C: And the rule is that if you run out of cards, you lose. And so Kevin was hoping that he'd just lose, but unfortunately for him, he lost. [00:15:54] Speaker D: Oh, no. That's why I like this more casual format where you're playing with. It's you and three other people just playing so casually, communicating with each other. Everyone takes their turn. It's a slower pace. You're allowed to build up extremely broken combos at the cost of. You can only have one copy of each in it. You can either be a friend to everybody or a total jerk to everybody, or you can make an alliance with somebody, or you can even like, hey, I'll buff you up if you attack this person for me, because I don't like them. I really like that community aspect of it. And at the Commander Game Store, they really made me feel welcome in. That doesn't. Because I played a deck that I guess I recently found out is, oh, if you're playing this character, you're going to be the number one target. So I accidentally brought in a deck that was. Oh, I thought this would be fun because I like the concept. Everyone. You know, this deck is infamous for. Everyone hates you, right? And you're going to be the biggest target on the table. No, please. I'm learning. Please help me. [00:16:50] Speaker C: So can I ask you a question? How'd you get into magic? What was your integration into magic? How was it just a natural draw or did someone introduce you? [00:16:58] Speaker D: So I actually did get introduced to magic. It was post high school. And that summer in between high school and post high school, I hung out with a group of friends. And one of my friends is like, so do you want to try magic this time around? I'm like, I've heard it, I've seen it, I check it out. I don't know a thing about it. Took me to a couple of stores, tried the formats, and I didn't really get into it all that much. I learned the rules of it. But then when I found out these formats of, oh, you can only use cards within the last three releases as a format, or you can only use cards released after 2008 for this format or this format allows for. You can only have this. Many people have made their own ways to play the game. So I started scratching my head, and that's how I found this format, and I fell in love with it. I like the idea of taking a card or a character that's your all time favorite and making an entire deck in magic, it's called a library, and it's supposed to be your, quote, book of spells. [00:17:52] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:17:53] Speaker D: So making a entire library based around one character that you really like, or their play style, or their characters, or their lore or their whatever you want to add to it. I really liked that idea a lot. And then you play communally. [00:18:08] Speaker C: I. So magic seems fun. I. I like the fact that a lot of those cards hold their value really well. I've noticed that people resell them a lot. And there's. There is card shops that we've been to where there's whole, like, display cases dedicated to magic cards, single cards. And now I understand why, because you can only have one of that card. [00:18:28] Speaker D: In the Commander format and other formats. You can have four. [00:18:31] Speaker C: Okay. Okay. [00:18:32] Speaker D: Yeah. So it's just the way you want to play. What way do you want to play is most fun to you? And the Commander one is extremely casual. I don't have to worry about spending $10,000 to build a super competitive deck. I build something that I say, this is fun, and I want to have fun with everyone around me. [00:18:49] Speaker C: Nice, bro. Now, my question for Gladys. So tell me, how'd you get into Lorcana? Like, what drew you in? How'd you get introduced? [00:18:58] Speaker A: So you introduced me to Lorcana. I saw that you and Kevin were playing. I saw the cards. I think what really drew me in was the art in the cards. That's what I was like, oh, these are cool. You know, growing up, we had Pokemon cards and we used to collect them just, you know, for the character. And I was like, oh, these are cool. You know, and then when I saw you guys playing, I was like, I want to learn. Like, this is. This looks like fun, you know, and it's easy enough for my 10 year old to be able to read the cards and understand and play. Although she doesn't really read them. [00:19:34] Speaker C: Your minion. [00:19:34] Speaker A: My minion. [00:19:35] Speaker C: Because ultimately we want to keep kids anonymous. [00:19:38] Speaker A: Okay. [00:19:38] Speaker C: No, no. That's so cool. I. I'm glad you play. It's fun. Ultimately, I feel that I. We frustrate each other when we play. [00:19:46] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:19:47] Speaker C: Because we. We understand each other's weaknesses. And with like, we sat there and I think it was like two weeks ago, we sat there for three, four hours building decks so we could play each other in that way. So it takes forever because you have to know what you want to do prior to you doing it. The likeliness of you getting a certain card and playing a certain way, the percentage is low. That's why your decks are so big. [00:20:12] Speaker D: Gladys, I actually had a question. What kind of deck in Lorcana are you playing right now? Because you guys got me a starter deck for was Beauty and the Beast. Right. [00:20:21] Speaker A: So it's the colors that are on the side. I believe it was red. [00:20:24] Speaker D: Blue. [00:20:25] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. So that's Ruby. And I don't know what blue's called safety. [00:20:29] Speaker A: So I think it's not fire. [00:20:30] Speaker D: Okay. [00:20:31] Speaker C: Whatever it is. Yeah. Well, it's not. The deck isn't based on the characters. [00:20:35] Speaker D: Oh, okay. [00:20:35] Speaker C: Those are just the foils that you get in that deck. [00:20:38] Speaker D: Got it, Got it. [00:20:39] Speaker C: So it's. And. But it's the newest season. So you got arcasia's island, right? [00:20:44] Speaker A: Yes. [00:20:45] Speaker C: Yeah. And so that's in. I like to play with red and blue or blue and gray. [00:20:51] Speaker D: You say these colors and they have similar ones in magic. And I'm thinking play styles like that. I like the similarities already. [00:20:57] Speaker C: Yeah. Well, my thing is that a lot of the blue characters are very adaptable to support characters. So I. And then a lot of the. The gray characters are. Are like big heavy hitters. So who wouldn't want a great sidekick to their. To their big guys. [00:21:13] Speaker D: Right. [00:21:14] Speaker C: And so that's how I use it when I play it. She uses. She's heavy on. On red and green right now. Is that what it is? [00:21:20] Speaker A: I'm on blue and yellow. [00:21:23] Speaker C: What do you think of those? [00:21:24] Speaker A: I like them, but I've also been shuffling around with purple and red. I haven't played steel yet, but it's like he said, you know, you built those characters or you read the cards and like, you know, if you have this character, you can add it to the same character named, you know, Clarabel is my favorite right now. So, you know, you Have a Clarabelle card that says, you know, if you have a character named Clarabelle, you can use this card for less ink. And those are. [00:21:52] Speaker D: Ink is the resource, right? [00:21:53] Speaker A: Correct. [00:21:54] Speaker D: Okay. [00:21:55] Speaker C: I like to call it power. [00:21:56] Speaker D: I'm like, yeah, imagine we just call it mana. [00:22:00] Speaker C: Yeah. It just. The thing is, in all of these games, they have. It's. They do the same. The same thing. And ultimately, if you play one tabletop game, you can understand another one. [00:22:10] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:22:11] Speaker C: There's certain tabletop games I don't even mess with is because it just. The complexity is. It's not. It's not really complex. It's more frustrating. Right. Because, like, Yu Gi Oh. We talked about that earlier. [00:22:23] Speaker D: Oh, yes. Yu Gi oh. Yu Gi oh is what happens when you play a trading card game with no, like, resource that you can deplete from or be depleted from. It's wild. And coming back to it now, just seeing how the game is, I'm just in awe at what is even capable. So I can't even bring an old deck of mine in like I did back at the magic game. [00:22:44] Speaker C: It's a lot to make sure that we have the colors right. Amber is yellow, amethyst is purple, emerald is green, Ruby is red, and sapphire is blue. I just go off of the color because ultimately I don't want to learn the gems. It's my laziness because I'm like, I use blue, and I know that a lot of players that play that, like, you mean sapphire row and. Yeah. I just. I use. I use certain cards. Certain and based, and I like. I have a whole. I have. I have this obsession with Donald Duck. If you've listened to any of the past episodes, I. I have a whole duck deck. [00:23:19] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:23:20] Speaker C: Where it's crazy. And some of the supports. She gets frustrated when I use it, but to me, it's. It's amazing. I'm just like. I'm like, oh, yeah, this is support. This will give them two extra hits. And yada, yada, yada, I gain a are here for using Duck Manor and blah, blah, blah, blah. And at the end of it, she's just like, all right, you win. [00:23:37] Speaker D: So what kind of play style would you say you like to play the most? [00:23:41] Speaker A: I've been playing to see what I like. I know Kevin plays the lower. [00:23:47] Speaker C: The lower Inc. Valued cards. [00:23:50] Speaker A: Yes. So. And he gets lore for that, which is, you know, the points. So I kind of tested that out recently, and I don't like it. [00:24:00] Speaker C: It's because it's less fun. It's ultimately less Interactive. It's just literally, you're just throwing up free throws. [00:24:06] Speaker A: I try to battle, essentially. I feel like that's more fun for me. So I try and have, you know, some of the fours and fives. I try not to mess too much with like the higher value cards just because they require more ink. And I'm still learning, but I like to battle. If I can kill his duck because it's giving them extra lore, I'm going to go after that duck. [00:24:29] Speaker C: So is this a game that you'd invite other friends to play? [00:24:33] Speaker A: Yes, it is. I recently invited a friend and she enjoyed it. She liked it. I told her she needs to get us. [00:24:40] Speaker C: Yeah. She plays like. And ultimately, here's the thing about this game. It. You need to read the card because each, every card has individual personality, just like your Disney characters. They're not. It's not a. It's not a rinse and repeat like you like in a lot of Pokemon such. There's. There's so many details, right. There's cars that can do certain things that. That'll help certain characters only. And she doesn't want to do that. When she played with us, she specifically went just for points because at one point I think she just wanted to get out of there. I felt bad for her. I was just like, well, we went to this tabletop place. I won't say their name because it's just a bad vibe. They charge you to play, to use their tables, and then they charge for consumption of drinks and all this stuff. And it was really stuffy in there and it was dirty. They didn't. They have. They hadn't cleaned in a while. But we. The only reason we went there is because Trading Card Garage, they close one day a week. [00:25:34] Speaker D: Oh. [00:25:35] Speaker C: And so we're like. Her friend was like, what are you guys doing? Oh, we want to play Lorcana. Oh, can we join you? Yeah, absolutely. Let's move. Meet up at this neutral occasion. And then this neutral location is hot garbage. I. I don't enjoy it. Right. [00:25:46] Speaker A: I didn't either. No. [00:25:48] Speaker C: Tell me what you thought. [00:25:50] Speaker A: Well, just coming in, I didn't really feel like it was a welcoming, you know, like we came in and the lady was like, I, she. She was busy, so I don't know if that's why she had. I felt like she had one person. [00:26:03] Speaker C: That was trying to buy a six pack of dice and it was. She was. Wasn't busy. She just. She's just like, oh, Lord. Canon people. And it was like, here's the thing. Is that your money is green wherever you go and there's a certain level of client services that's expected. She didn't even want to acknowledge the fact that we were there. I was like, hey, I have an account here, can you look it up? And she's like, you don't know what it is. And it's like, I'm sorry for bothering you. I. I know I. I pay whatever I've paid to be a part of a member. Is it still active? She's like, you don't know? And I'm like, no, or else I. [00:26:39] Speaker D: Wouldn'T be asking this. [00:26:40] Speaker C: Yeah. And it was one of those where like her follow up questions just seem more. They seem snotty. [00:26:46] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:26:46] Speaker C: And I felt bad and I was just like, I was trying to keep. Ultimately I don't want my energy to get negative, Especially if we have other people joining us to play. So I try to stay calm, cool and collected. But Gladys was just. I could see her frustration and she's like, what's going on? And I was like, no, no, no, it's fine. It's being taken care of. I'm going to say who it is. But I didn't have fun there. So would you recommend magic to other people or would you prefer people only that are ready to dedicate serious time to learning to play this? [00:27:19] Speaker D: When it comes to magic, it's all a matter of like, how do you want to play? Do you want to be super duper competitive and just get to that victory point in as few turns as possible, possible, or do you want to build a deck based around a certain theme that you think is going to be a lot of fun? Do you want to play with a group of people or do you Want to play 1v1? I think with magic it's a matter of yes, it is an investment, unfortunately, to get the top of the line, highest end. I'm going to win on turn three kind of decks, maybe even less, maybe even turn zero. The thing with magic that I would recommend to everybody is it's the most played card game in the world. You're always going to find people to play with you and you're always going to have a different interaction with it and learning how to play. From what I've seen when I went to certain conventions, there's almost always magic. There's always a type of magic tournament there and you're always going to be around people that are going to play with you. And I like that part about it. I like the sense that it is so Universal. [00:28:15] Speaker C: There's a big tabletop convention in Ohio. I can't remember what it's called, but they do all the. All the different tabletop games. I used to play Hero Clicks. I was a big hero and I. And. But they have a huge convention. I can't remember what it's called. But a lot of major, major tabletop games will. Will host tournaments there. And you get limited edition items, cards, pieces. They had. I have a buddy that plays the Star wars. The minifigure game. The. It's kind of like. It's kind of like Warhammer, where you paint the little. [00:28:47] Speaker D: Oh, like a war game. [00:28:50] Speaker C: Yeah. And so he plays that and he went to that one year and it was. He just told me and he sent me videos and I just saw all this stuff. I've never been. But I do want to go. I think this is the year I'm gonna go. Especially because Lorcana has been doing a lot of tournaments nationwide where you get limited edition cards or. Or certain items that are only accessible via one of these tournaments. [00:29:12] Speaker D: Oh, nice. [00:29:13] Speaker C: Yeah. So I'm excited. Is there anything that you feel that the table top community needs to hear? Like something that you want to voice? Because I feel that a lot of these different games are not as welcoming as, let's say, a Disney Lord. Canon. Right? Or am I wrong? Please. [00:29:32] Speaker A: No, I feel like you're right. I'm fairly new to tabletop games. Nothing really sparked my interest like Lorcana did. And to me, it's fun. You know, it was easy to understand. I'm still learning. I'm still learning a lot, you know, different moves, different things. But I feel like it's easy. It's not hard. I feel like anyone can pick it up. [00:29:56] Speaker C: Yeah, it's extremely hard. Don't invite people. No, I'm just kidding. I'm joking. [00:30:00] Speaker D: That's a joke. That's the thing I noticed when you bring up Disney, it's very much an all ages thing. So if you're gonna have a game based around something that is inherently all ages, it's got to be simple enough for a child to pick up, which hopefully I can pick it up faster than a child when I learn it. Fingers crossed. [00:30:17] Speaker C: I'd really enjoy if you and your other half would pick it up and be like, hey, Nate, you guys want to just come over and play? Because that. That to me, sounds like a perfect night. That wraps up our tabletop portion of this episode. Now, to recap our last episode. Did you listen to it, Anthony? [00:30:35] Speaker D: Yes, I did. [00:30:36] Speaker C: And what were your thoughts, bro? [00:30:37] Speaker D: I thought it was really cool that I got to sit down and talk with people and people also got to hear me about some recent things that were going on in the shows that I was watching, whether it be older, newer, what's going on. And I really enjoyed, like hearing people's reactions to both the old and the new stuff and giving out my recommendations to anyone that wants to hear it. I like to be able to share my interests. It feels really good to hear a conversation behind it because I might hear things like, oh, I never heard of it, or oh, I have heard of it. How good is it? And maybe I'll even get a new perspective on things. I like hearing discourse when it comes to my interests. I loved the back and forth. I loved how everyone had something to say and I can take something from it. [00:31:19] Speaker C: It was incredibly engaging. I listened to it and as I was editing it and I was like, man, this is incredibly audible. And it just. There was great fluidity throughout the entire episode. I was grateful for you guys. I really enjoyed it. Normally my normal procedure is to send a proof out so you guys can hear it, but I was like, this is too good. I'm just gonna post it. So it's been live for a week. It's been doing well. We got a couple hundred listens. [00:31:44] Speaker D: Oh, that's awesome. [00:31:45] Speaker C: Yeah. No, no, no. I'm. I'm incredibly excited. And so that's why I tried to schedule us to do a follow up episode so fast so I can get to it. And that way we can have a more regular releasing of these episodes, I think, as long as work permits. I don't see a problem with trying to schedule these once every six weeks or so. [00:32:05] Speaker D: I'm 100% down for it. I like to hear what other people have to say about all of my nerdy, geeky, off the wall, counterculture, pop culture interests all over the place. I love it. [00:32:18] Speaker C: Gladys, did you listen to the last episode? [00:32:21] Speaker A: I did listen to it. [00:32:23] Speaker C: Thoughts? [00:32:23] Speaker A: It was great. I like it. I. You guys gave good suggestions on shows. I was able to relate to shows that you guys have watched. [00:32:32] Speaker C: So to kind of close. Closing comments. And then the closing segment. Do we have anything coming up for any of us? Are you. You guys. So level up is coming up. That's probably the most exciting thing. And then I think there is a retro game con in Pasadena I'm trying to go to. Well, it's only. It's only a three hour drive, right? Yeah. And so I'm trying to Go to that. If that doesn't happen, I, it's completely do, It's, I'm, I'm not going to be upset, but it's something that I'm trying to go to. But Level up is coming to town. I'm super excited for that. The convention center is almost done and so it's looking, it's looking more polished. It's still not accessible like it should be. So are they doing level up in the South Hall? [00:33:13] Speaker D: Yeah. So this year for Level up, it's going to be in the south hall, but it unlike. Because last year it was in the west hall because the south hall was getting renovated. But this year and it's been in the south hall in years past. But the major difference this time around is it's actually going to take advantage of both levels of the South Hall. So it's all almost double in size from what it was when it was last time in South Hall. [00:33:34] Speaker C: South Hall's long. We were, I was there today. It's a mile long. So there's definitely a lot of real estate to fill up. I enjoy Level Up. I, I like going to do the free play games and then the tournament games, like when they do the Mario Kart and stuff. I'm, I'm excited to see what they do with the space. It's, it's every year it's fun. I, I, I, There hasn't been a time when I haven't gone and it hasn't been fun. I told you, I met George Martinet there. [00:33:58] Speaker D: Yes. [00:33:58] Speaker C: And so they always have great guests, great people, great vibe. Another show that that's coming up is also the In May. It's the front row card show and I've been to that in the past. I want to go to that. I don't know if you want to join us for that. [00:34:13] Speaker D: I'll see how the schedule is because I got a lot. I got some things coming on up in May that require full attention, but I will wedge in some time when it comes around and I will anytime to have fun with new hobbies or try something new or be with good people. I'm down. [00:34:29] Speaker C: And lastly, nerd recommendation of the week. Anthony, Go. [00:34:33] Speaker D: Nerd recommendation of the week. Well, there's actually a convention coming up at next weekend and I will be going to that. I'll be helping out. I'll be going to this convention at the end of the week. If you haven't gone or if you did go by the time this is out and you found me there. Hey, I was the guy that was dressed in a suit for most of the days. There is a. It's not a family friendly convention. It is an 18 plus convent convention. [00:34:58] Speaker C: Oh, it's a spicy convention. [00:35:01] Speaker D: Yes, it is. [00:35:02] Speaker C: Oh, do you have Gladys? Do you have any nerd recommendations for the week? [00:35:08] Speaker A: Go play Lorcana. [00:35:11] Speaker C: I love that. You know what? That's perfect. Go play Lorcana, everybody. And lastly, our next episode is going to be anime, so stay tuned. I appreciate you joining us for this 30something minute episode. I love the length of these segments and ultimately, I feel that it was very fluid. Thank you for joining us. This is Nate at Vindicator Ramirez. [00:35:31] Speaker D: This is Balante. [00:35:33] Speaker A: This is Glattus Tatis 43. [00:35:36] Speaker C: Thanks, everybody. You guys have a great night. Bye.
